About ARMT

NTI's Ammonia Refrigeration Maintenance Technology program is state-of- the-art and in high demand. Students travel from across the country to study at NTI's facility, both in the traditional program and as participants in special topic, short-term seminars. Graduates of NTI's diploma program in ARMT are skilled technicians with promising career opportunities.

The ARMT program at NTI is designed to foster the students' sound understanding of the principles of mechanical refrigeration operations and maintenance.

NTI boasts the only public ammonia refrigeration training facility in the state of Arkansas, housed in one of the newest buildings on campus. In fact, NTI offers the only known diploma program in the nation for ammonia refrigeration.

Graduates of the program find employment in food and beverage processing, in cold storage facilities, or with manufacturers and installation contractors of mechanical ammonia refrigeration system components and systems.

What You Will Learn

The Ammonia Refrigeration Program is centered on the industrial ammonia refrigeration field.  Theory of refrigeration and related subjects are covered to provide an understanding of task-oriented topics and activities experienced in the classroom and laboratory.

Refrigerant flow, system layout and component synergy are covered with emphasis on the safe work practices.  OSHA's Process Safety Management Program, EPA's Risk Management Plan and Homeland Security Anti-terrorism Standards are studied as they relate to ammonia refrigeration.

Students are challenged to fully understand operation and maintenance of industrial refrigeration systems.
